Lucknow, August 18: BJP spokesperson Rakesh Tripathi responded to various issues, including the party’s new organizational appointments in Uttar Pradesh, the investigation into alleged donations linked to the Ayodhya Ram Temple, and comments from Congress regarding Vande Mataram. He accused Congress of politicizing several issues and opposing matters related to national interest.
Regarding the appointment of Vinod Tawde as the new in-charge for Uttar Pradesh, Tripathi stated that such appointments are part of BJP’s organizational methodology. The in-charge plays a crucial role in coordinating between the central and state organizations, enhancing the party’s operations. Tawde’s appointment has infused new energy and enthusiasm among BJP workers. He has a long political experience, having been associated with the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad since his student days and later taking on various responsibilities within the BJP.
Citing the Bihar elections as an example, he claimed that Tawde’s strategy benefited the BJP, leading to a significant victory. With the upcoming Uttar Pradesh elections, Tawde’s experience will also benefit the BJP workers and organization in the state.
On the alleged donation scam related to the Ayodhya Ram Temple, Tripathi mentioned that the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust had requested the Uttar Pradesh government to form a team for investigation. The government established the SIT within 24 hours. Based on the interim report, FIRs were filed, arrests were made, and the accused were sent to jail. Following the Supreme Court’s directives, the investigation team was expanded, and the final report has now been submitted to the Home Department.
He stated that actions would be taken against those identified in the report as necessary. The Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust will also work to implement the SIT’s recommendations to prevent such incidents in the future and protect the sentiments of devotees.
Tripathi sharply criticized Congress leaders‘ comments regarding Vande Mataram, calling the politicization of the national song unfortunate. He emphasized that Vande Mataram is a song connected to the national consciousness, adopted as inspiration by many revolutionaries during the freedom struggle. Such a national symbol should not be made a subject of political controversy.
Responding to Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s remarks about the old version of the song being deemed a crime, Tripathi targeted Congress for repeatedly making comments that disrespect the national song.
He also addressed Kharge’s accusations against the Modi government for undermining democratic freedoms and the right to dissent. Tripathi asserted that while citizens have the freedom of expression under the Constitution, it is subject to reasonable restrictions. Freedom of expression does not mean one can publish or broadcast anything without limits.
He mentioned that if someone attempts to spread rumors or harmful content, action can be taken under the regulations. These rules should apply equally to all political parties and groups. While freedom of expression is vital, adherence to reasonable restrictions as outlined in the Constitution is also necessary.
Tripathi criticized Congress for its comments regarding U.S. President Donald Trump’s praise for the Indian Election Commission. He noted that despite India’s vast population, numerous states, and geographical diversity, the Election Commission’s management of the electoral process receives international recognition. Many representatives from democratic countries come to study India’s electoral system. If the President of a major democratic country like the U.S. praises India’s election system and commission, it should be a matter of pride for the nation.
He accused Congress of adopting an oppositional stance on issues related to national interest. Political parties have the right to oppose the BJP, but they should not oppose India and its institutions.
In response to Rahul Gandhi‘s criticism of the central government regarding police action during student protests at Jantar Mantar, Tripathi alleged that Gandhi was deliberately trying to incite students. The central government has been sensitive to student issues and has consistently taken steps to address their demands.
Regarding police action, he stated that force was used to control the crowd and maintain security during the protests. He accused Rahul Gandhi of making one-sided political statements about police actions and creating confusion among students.
