Beijing, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : Chinese President Xi Jinping spoke with British Prime Minister Andy Burnham over the phone following an invitation. During the conversation, Xi congratulated Burnham on his new role as Prime Minister.
Xi emphasized that China and the UK are comprehensive strategic partners. He acknowledged the different social systems and national conditions of both countries but noted that their shared interests outweigh their differences. Xi urged both sides to foster mutual respect and trust, resolve differences, and seek cooperation that benefits both nations. He pointed out that the governments of China and the UK are focused on economic development and improving the lives of their citizens, indicating that they can support each other in these endeavors.
Looking ahead, Xi mentioned that during China’s 15th Five-Year Plan, the country would expand openness in education, healthcare, and finance, presenting opportunities for collaboration between the two nations. He stressed the need for strengthened cooperation across various sectors.
Additionally, Xi highlighted the importance of enhancing dialogue and coordination within international organizations such as the UN, G20, and WTO, as both countries are permanent members of the UN Security Council and key players in the global economic community. He called for a balanced and orderly approach to global multipolarization and inclusive economic globalization.
Burnham agreed with Xi’s sentiments, reaffirming the UK’s commitment to maintaining policy continuity with China. He expressed readiness to enhance high-level exchanges and cooperation across diverse fields, aiming to restore bilateral relations to their highest historical level. Both leaders underscored the importance of collaborating to ensure global stability and prosperity.
