Rudraprayag, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : The Rudraprayag district administration is taking significant steps to improve waste management during the Kedarnath pilgrimage. With the aim of making the journey cleaner and more environmentally friendly, officials have begun to strengthen waste disposal systems. They have convened meetings with various agencies, including the municipal corporation and forest department, to devise a comprehensive strategy for managing the waste generated along the pilgrimage route.
District Magistrate Vishal Mishra highlighted that the influx of pilgrims presents a major challenge for waste management. To address this, plans are underway to establish additional sheds and new segregation centers along the route. These centers will facilitate the separation and scientific management of waste. Officials have been instructed to identify suitable land for these initiatives.
Moreover, the administration aims to enhance the transportation of waste collected in the Kedarnath area back to lower regions. This will involve collaboration with horse and mule operators to ensure that as much waste as possible is removed from the mountainous terrain.
The “Carry Me Back” initiative, supported by the NGO Healing Himalayas, has been making commendable efforts in this regard. The campaign involves local municipalities, district councils, volunteer organizations, and the horse and mule association working together to collect waste along the pilgrimage route. The administration’s goal is to ensure maximum waste is transported down for proper segregation and disposal during the pilgrimage.
Mishra emphasized the importance of identifying and addressing any shortcomings in the travel arrangements. The focus is on finding a sustainable solution to the waste management issue through an integrated plan, ensuring that pilgrims enjoy a clean and beautiful journey while also preserving the Himalayan environment.
