Rahul Gandhi Criticizes Government Over Student Protest Violence

New Delhi, August 18: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has launched a fierce attack on the central government following remarks made by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju regarding student protests at Jantar Mantar. Gandhi accused the government of using pellet guns and batons with nails against peaceful protesters, resulting in severe injuries to children, including one losing an eye and another suffering a cut ear.

On social media platform X, Gandhi stated, “Ministers of the Modi government are saying we should praise the Delhi police. Just half a kilometer from Parliament, pellet guns were fired at peaceful students, and batons with nails were used. Should we praise this brutality?”

He mentioned that he personally met the injured children and that thousands of videos have been viewed across the country. Gandhi claimed that the government’s “core principle is falsehood and violence.” He criticized the government for using force against children and then denying any wrongdoing.

Gandhi also targeted Union Home Minister Amit Shah, stating, “Amit Shah has been ‘missing’ throughout the session, avoiding the opposition. The Prime Minister has yet to apologize to the students.”

He warned that the greatest threat to the country comes from those who refuse to acknowledge their mistakes. Gandhi urged the government not to lie to the nation’s children, reminding them that “they have eyes and memories.”

Earlier, Minister Rijiju had claimed that no one was harmed during the protests and that no bones were broken. He asserted that no protesters were hospitalized due to serious injuries.

Rijiju alleged that many individuals had infiltrated the protests under the guise of students to incite violence. He accused members of the Aam Aadmi Party, “drum-beating protesters,” the Bhim Army, and the Samajwadi Party of provoking the demonstrators.

The minister stated that if a similar protest had occurred during Congress’s tenure, the situation would have been far more severe, potentially resulting in thousands of deaths. He maintained that the Delhi administration did not use batons during the protests and that protesters were only stopped when they attempted to forcefully march towards Parliament.

Rijiju concluded that there were no fatalities during the protests and praised the Delhi police and administration for managing such a large movement effectively.
