Jaipur, February 22: In connection with the explosion at an illegal firecracker manufacturing unit in Bhiwadi, police have arrested Hemant Sachdeva, identified as the main accused. The blast, which occurred on February 16, resulted in the deaths of seven workers and left several others injured.

Manish Kumar, the Superintendent of Police for Kherthal-Tijara, reported that Sachdeva was apprehended during a raid at his residence in Delhi and has been brought to Bhiwadi for further questioning.

Prior to this, factory operator Hemant Kumar Sharma and supervisor Abhinandan Tiwari had already been arrested. The initial FIR named plot owner Rajendra Kumar, but during interrogations, Sachdeva’s involvement emerged, leading to his identification as the primary suspect.

Sachdeva was presented in court on Saturday, where police requested custody to advance the investigation into the illegal firecracker operations.

During the inquiry, police gathered information about other individuals and locations allegedly linked to the illegal firecracker manufacturing network. Subsequently, the investigation team conducted multiple raids to identify additional suspects.

Investigators are also examining the potential involvement of certain police personnel. The Jaipur vigilance team is currently investigating Head Constable Yogesh Kumar Sharma and Mukesh Verma, in charge of the district special team.

In light of these events, the Bhiwadi district special team has been disbanded, and further investigations are ongoing to uncover any lapses or irregularities.

Police officials confirmed that the factory was operating without a valid license and lacked the necessary safety measures for handling and storing explosive materials.

Following the explosion, the state government initiated a statewide campaign to identify and shut down illegal firecracker manufacturing units to prevent similar incidents.

The state administration has also announced compensation for the families of those killed and injured in the blast.

The investigation is still underway, and police stated that further actions will be taken based on the evidence and findings that emerge.
