Tragic Vehicle Accident in Afghanistan Claims Five Lives

Kabul, June 21: A tragic vehicle accident occurred in the Mandikol area of Kohi Safi district, Parwan province, eastern Afghanistan, on Saturday, resulting in the deaths of five passengers and injuring seven others.

According to a report from Xinhua News Agency, a local police officer stated on Sunday that a technical malfunction is suspected to have caused the vehicle to veer off the road and overturn. The five victims died at the scene, while the injured were transported to hospitals in Kabul.

Provincial police spokesperson Fazal Rahim Muskenyar confirmed that the injured individuals are receiving medical care.

Earlier, on June 15, another accident in the eastern province of Wardak involved a minibus overturning, which led to the deaths of four passengers, including a child, and left four others injured. Provincial police spokesperson Mohammad Yusuf Israr reported that this incident occurred in the Sayyidabad district, with the deceased including a mother, her child, and two other women. Some of the injured were reported to be in critical condition.

Additionally, a serious accident took place on May 30, when a truck carrying Afghan migrants returning from Pakistan overturned, resulting in the deaths of 18 individuals, including ten children and five women, with many others injured. This incident occurred on a highway in the eastern Laghman province.

According to Amu TV, Taliban traffic director Habibullah Mubarez stated that the accident happened near the Surkhkano intersection on the main Kabul-Jalalabad highway in the Karghai district of Laghman. Taliban disaster management officials reported that all victims were Afghan migrants who had recently returned from Pakistan. They were temporarily housed in Kunaar province before being transported to Kabul when the truck overturned.

A statement from the Taliban governor’s office in Laghman indicated that “18 people died, and 35 others were injured. The injured have been sent to hospitals in Nangarhar for treatment.”
