Chandigarh, July 1: The Punjab government has begun disbursing financial assistance under the ‘Mawa Dhiyaan Satkar Yojana‘ to women’s accounts. Under this scheme, women from the general category will receive ₹1,000, while Scheduled Caste women will get ₹1,500. The government is releasing this amount for three months in a lump sum. This move has sparked political tensions in Punjab. Punjab BJP President, Kuldeep Singh Dhillon, has labeled it a betrayal of women by the government.
In a conversation regarding Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s announcement about fulfilling his last guarantee, Dhillon stated, “This is a complete betrayal of women and an electoral stunt. Initially, it was claimed that registration for the scheme would start in April, and that the amounts for April, May, and June would be sent to women’s accounts together. However, the advertisements released today by the government mention advance payments for July, August, and September. With the assembly elections approaching in September, it seems this is just an electoral gimmick.”
Dhillon further pointed out that the Aam Aadmi Party had promised before the 2022 assembly elections that all women over 18 would receive ₹1,000 monthly financial assistance as soon as they came to power, but this promise remains unfulfilled even after four and a half years.
He also questioned the state’s electricity management, stating that the government, which promised free electricity, has seen continuous power cuts during its term. Additionally, he accused the government of inadequate preparations for the monsoon season.
Dhillon asserted that if the BJP comes to power in Punjab, all promises made to women will be fulfilled immediately, just as has been done in other states.
Meanwhile, the Punjab BJP highlighted on their social media that, “The BJP has delivered on its promises. After forming the government in West Bengal on May 9, 2026, within just two months, over 1.3 crore women began receiving ₹3,000 monthly assistance in their accounts. This is clear evidence of our commitment to fulfilling promises on time.”
The BJP further stated, “On the other hand, the AAP government in Punjab has limited its promises to mere assurances. Despite more than four and a half years passing, these promises remain unfulfilled. Now, with elections approaching, the announcement of ₹1,000 per month seems like a mere formality. If the government is genuinely serious about its promises, it should deposit the complete backlog for the past 51 months into every woman’s account. Women deserve their full rights and dues.”
