Chandigarh, July 1: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann will officially launch the highly anticipated ‘Mawan-Dhiyan Satkar Yojana’ from Dhuri on Wednesday. According to government sources, a one-time honorarium for three months will be credited to the bank accounts of eligible women after 12 PM.
This initiative, part of the key promises made by the Aam Aadmi Party to women ahead of the 2022 Assembly elections, will directly transfer funds into the bank accounts of women across the state. Women from the general category will receive a total of ₹3,000 (₹1,000 per month), while Scheduled Caste (SC) women will receive ₹4,500 (₹1,500 per month).
The Punjab government reports that approximately 5 million women have registered for this scheme so far. Women who register later will also be eligible for benefits based on their eligibility criteria.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has clarified that women receiving social security pensions will also qualify for this scheme. The state government estimates that nearly 97% of women in Punjab will benefit from this initiative, with a budget provision of ₹9,300 crores allocated for the fiscal year 2025-26.
Recently, Chief Minister Mann stated that his government is consistently implementing welfare schemes. The state has provided free electricity to households, offered government jobs to over 68,000 youth without corruption, developed roads, and closed several toll plazas to ensure daily savings of approximately ₹7 million. Efforts are also ongoing to strengthen education, health, and infrastructure.
Mann highlighted improvements in the irrigation sector, noting that water usage in canals has increased from just 22% at the time of government formation to over 80% now.
He mentioned that regular grants are being issued for village development. Regarding the health sector, he referred to the ‘Chief Minister Sehat Scheme,’ which provides cashless treatment up to ₹1 million for each family in Punjab. So far, residents have received over ₹6.5 billion in free treatment.
