New Delhi, July 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized on Thursday that Japan is a crucial partner for India. He expressed confidence that the relationship between New Delhi and Tokyo will strengthen further, with technology partnership serving as the strongest foundation.
In a post on the social media platform ‘X’, following discussions with Japanese Prime Minister, Modi stated, “Japan is a significant partner for India, and we are fully confident that our relationship will grow stronger in the future. Today, our talks covered all aspects of the India-Japan special strategic and global partnership, including technology, innovation, artificial intelligence (AI), defense and security, pharmaceuticals, and many other issues.”
Regarding economic relations, Modi outlined a clear goal: to attract 10 trillion yen in investment from Japan to India over the next decade and to double the number of Japanese companies operating in India.
Both leaders participated in the 16th India-Japan Annual Summit, where they reviewed the entire spectrum of cooperation between the two nations and discussed ways to enhance it further.
Modi noted on ‘X’, “Prime Minister Takaiichi and I believe that technology will be the strongest foundation of our partnership. To advance this vision, we have issued a joint statement in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) today. Several leading institutions in India’s AI sector have also signed agreements with their Japanese counterparts. We also discussed cooperation in energy, people-to-people contact, and education.”
The Japanese Prime Minister also highlighted India’s role as a vital partner in promoting a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)’.
She wrote on ‘X’, “India is an important partner for Japan in advancing the Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP). With next year marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between our two countries, Japan and India will work together to contribute to the prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region and the world.”
Prime Minister Sanae Takaiichi stated that her vision of a ‘Free and Open Indo-Pacific (FOIP)’ aligns with Modi’s ‘Ocean’ vision, aiming to create an open and prosperous maritime region in the Indo-Pacific where everyone can enjoy freedom and progress.
During the meeting, both leaders also discussed regional conditions, focusing particularly on the Indo-Pacific region.
