Indian Navy Foils Pirate Attack on MV Golden Arsenal in Gulf of Aden

New Delhi, July 2: The Indian Navy‘s warship INS Trikand successfully thwarted an attempted pirate attack on the cargo vessel MV Golden Arsenal in the Gulf of Aden.

On July 1, pirates attempted to assault the MV Golden Arsenal while it was navigating near the Gulf of Aden. The Indian Navy’s INS Trikand, stationed in the region, promptly intervened to ensure the safety of the vessel.

The cargo ship was sailing under the flag of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines. During its journey from Aden, Yemen, the vessel reported an attempted attack approximately 300 nautical miles northeast of Djibouti. This information was relayed to the Information Fusion Centre-Indian Ocean Region (IFC-IOR), which immediately dispatched INS Trikand to assist the ship.

The MV Golden Arsenal had a total of 21 crew members on board, including one Indian national. The attack caused damage to the ship’s bridge and nearby areas. For safety, all crew members moved to the secure room (citadel) of the vessel and were confirmed safe.

On Thursday morning, a team from INS Trikand boarded the ship. They conducted a thorough search and assessed the situation. No suspicious individuals were found during the search. Subsequently, the crew safely exited the citadel and began evaluating the damage in collaboration with the Indian Navy team.

To enhance security, the Indian Navy also deployed its P-8I maritime patrol aircraft to the area. This aircraft conducted aerial surveillance and reconnaissance, aiding in monitoring the region and improving operations against the pirates.

After ensuring the vessel’s safety, INS Trikand concluded its anti-piracy mission, allowing the MV Golden Arsenal to resume its journey.

The Indian Navy reiterated its commitment to safeguarding commercial vessels and sailors in the Indian Ocean region. Addressing piracy and ensuring safe passage at sea remains a top priority, regardless of the nationality of the ship or its crew.
