Major Cyber Fraud Syndicate Digital Arrest Busted in New Delhi, Three Arrested from West Bengal

New Delhi, July 1: The Delhi Police have successfully dismantled a cyber fraud syndicate known as ‘Digital Arrest.’ Three suspects were apprehended in West Bengal. Authorities seized six mobile phones, one laptop, 18 debit/credit cards, 15 SIM cards, and other incriminating materials from the suspects.

The police received a complaint indicating that the ‘Digital Arrest’ scam had defrauded a victim of ₹722,000. The scammers maintained contact with the victim through persistent WhatsApp video calls, coercing them into transferring funds via RTGS. Following the complaint, a case was registered, prompting an investigation.

Based on technical evidence, the police team conducted raids in South 24 Parganas and Howrah, leading to the arrest of Samiran Roy, Prince Shaw, and Samar Chatterjee.

According to police, the accused provided mule bank accounts, SIM cards, and banking credentials to organized cyber criminals. Victims were intimidated through fake ‘Digital Arrest’ calls, forcing them to transfer money into accounts set up by the syndicate.

The Cyber Police of the South District arrested three individuals connected to this interstate and international cyber fraud during the operation. They are continuing their investigation to identify other members of the network and trace the proceeds of the crime.

Previously, on June 29, the Delhi Police had also dismantled a major cyber fraud racket. They arrested ten suspects during raids conducted in various locations, including Jamtara. This operation was part of an ongoing campaign against organized cyber crime involved in online fraud.

Abhimanyu Poswal, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) for the South-West District, stated that the police had arrested ten individuals while investigating four separate cases of cyber fraud amounting to approximately ₹2.6 million. During the operation, a Mahindra Thar Rocks vehicle, 14 mobile phones, a laptop, and several other pieces of evidence related to the crimes were recovered.
