New Delhi, July 2: The governments of India and Japan, along with their stakeholders, will commemorate the year 2027 as the ‘India-Japan Year of Shared Horizons.’ This celebration marks the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) announced on Thursday that both countries will collaborate to plan and host various events throughout the year at different locations. Special emphasis will be placed on the participation of youth from both nations.
According to the MEA, the week of April 28, 2027, will be celebrated as ‘India-Japan Week.’ This initiative aims to honor the beginning of diplomatic ties, featuring numerous awareness and cultural programs.
Additionally, a logo and theme competition will be launched, allowing citizens of India and Japan to envision the future of their special strategic and global partnership.
A partnership titled ‘Image-75: Manga, Anime, Gaming’ will also be initiated. This aims to enhance mutual engagement and collaboration in fields such as manga, anime, and gaming. This is particularly significant as the popularity of Japanese manga, anime, and gaming is rapidly growing among Indian youth, with India emerging as a major hub for animation, gaming, comics, and new digital creative technologies.
A Buddhist delegation from Japan will visit India to embark on a spiritual journey to significant Buddhist sites. This initiative will help showcase the cultural and spiritual ties between the two countries and promote Buddhist tourism from Japan to India.
A year-long arts and culture program named ‘Rasa-75’ will also be launched, celebrating the arts, music, dance, and traditional practices of both nations. Artists, cultural institutions, and young creators from India and Japan will participate in this event.
To foster cooperation in sports and enhance community engagement, a program called ‘Sport-75’ will be initiated. This will align with India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Moreover, a friendly cricket match between India and Japan will be held during the ‘Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games 2026,’ marking the beginning of the 75th-anniversary celebrations.
The MEA also revealed a program named ‘Cricket Kizuna-75,’ where two Indian coaches will travel to Japan to conduct a week-long cricket training camp. This initiative aims to teach cricket to new players in Japan and strengthen sports and youth exchanges between the two countries.
