Chennai, July 2: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay initiated a significant series of departmental review meetings on Thursday. The objective is to formulate both short-term and long-term governance strategies.
Officials have been tasked with creating comprehensive action plans for each department, covering one, three, and five-year timelines.
This review process, which will continue until July 22, aims to assess the functioning of key government departments, identify challenges in implementation, and set measurable goals to improve service delivery in the coming years.
The first meeting of the day focused on the Cooperation, Food, and Consumer Protection Department. The Chief Minister reviewed the department’s operations, ongoing welfare schemes, public distribution systems, cooperative institutions, and consumer protection measures. Officials also discussed future priorities and development plans to strengthen public service and enhance administrative efficiency.
Attendees included Food and Civil Supplies Minister P. Venkataramanan, Cooperation Minister V. Gandhirajan, and Finance Minister N. Mary Wilson. Chief Secretary M. Sai Kumar provided the Chief Minister with updates on departmental operations and the progress of various schemes, alongside senior bureaucrats and departmental officials.
Later, CM Vijay chaired a review meeting for the Revenue and Disaster Management Department. Discussions centered on revenue administration, disaster preparedness, emergency response mechanisms, land administration, and measures to strengthen the state’s capacity to handle natural disasters.
Revenue and Disaster Management Minister K.A. Sengottaiyan participated in the meeting along with Finance Minister Mary Wilson. The Chief Secretary and senior officials presented detailed reports on departmental activities and outlined proposals for future initiatives.
These review meetings are part of a broader effort to create a systematic roadmap for governance, ensuring that each department works towards clearly defined goals over the next five years.
In addition to assessing the implementation of existing schemes, these meetings are expected to identify policy priorities, improve coordination between departments, and expedite the execution of major development projects.
Government sources indicated that the departmental reviews will encompass various sectors over the next three weeks, allowing the Chief Minister to directly monitor progress, evaluate administrative operations, and guide policy formulation.
The aim of this exercise is to align departmental operations with the government’s long-term development vision while ensuring that welfare programs are implemented efficiently and within set timelines.
