Priyank Kharge Expresses Gratitude After Being Appointed Karnataka Home Minister

Bengaluru, June 5: Priyank Kharge, son of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, has been appointed as the Home Minister in the government of Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Following his appointment, Priyank expressed his gratitude to senior Congress leaders.

In a post on X, he stated, “I sincerely thank the leaders of the Congress Party—Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, D.K. Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah, and Randeep Surjewala—for entrusting me with the significant responsibility of the Home Department, Information and Communication Technology Department, and E-Governance Department in the cabinet of the new Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar.”

Priyank Kharge also expressed special thanks to the people of the Chittapur constituency and Kalaburagi district, as well as to Congress workers for their continuous support and blessings. He appealed for the cooperation of all citizens in his steadfast efforts to transform Karnataka into an enlightened society, in line with the ideals of Buddha, Basavanna, and Ambedkar.

On Thursday night, newly appointed Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar allocated departments among his cabinet of 13 members. He retained key departments including Finance, Cabinet Affairs, Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR), and the Intelligence Department.

Yatindra, son of former Chief Minister and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Siddaramaiah, has been appointed as a minister for the first time and given the much-anticipated Urban Development Department. Deputy Chief Minister G. Parameshwara has been assigned the Revenue and Sports Department, which he previously held.

K.H. Muniyappa has been given the Food, Civil Supplies, and Consumer Affairs Department. K.J. George will oversee the Energy and Tourism Departments. M.B. Patil has been assigned the Large and Medium Industries and Infrastructure Department, while Ramalinga Reddy will manage the Water Resources (Major and Medium Irrigation) Department. Satish Jarkiholi has been appointed to the Public Works Department (PWD).

Krishna Byregowda will be responsible for the Greater Bengaluru Development Department, which includes the Greater Bengaluru Authority, various municipal corporations, the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board, and the Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation. Priyank Kharge will handle the Home Department (excluding the Intelligence Branch), Information Technology and Biotechnology (IT-BT), and the E-Governance Department. U.T. Khader has been assigned the Health and Family Welfare Department; he was previously the Assembly Speaker.

Barathi Suresh has been given the Transport Department, while Sharan Prakash Patil will oversee the Medical Education and Skill Development Department. Ishwar Khandre has been assigned the Rural Development and Panchayati Raj (RDPR) Department.
