New Delhi, August 26: National Security Advisor (NSA) and India’s Special Representative on the India-China border issue, Ajit Doval, emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the border regions during the 25th round of talks between special representatives held in Beijing.
During the meeting, NSA Doval and China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi engaged in a comprehensive, friendly, and clear discussion regarding the China-India border issue and bilateral relations.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, both sides noted the progress made in implementing the significant agreements reached between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping in Kazan in October 2024 and Tianjin in August 2025.
They expressed satisfaction over the resumption of mutual contacts and cross-border exchanges. Ongoing discussions between the two sides also included the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage and border trade through three designated trade routes.
In a statement released after the meeting, the Ministry said, “Under the strategic guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping, both special representatives exchanged clear and in-depth views on the India-China border issue and agreed to continue their efforts to seek a political resolution in the context of their overall and long-term interests.”
The Ministry further stated, “The Indian side emphasized the importance of maintaining peace in the border areas for the continued development and progress of India-China relations.” Both parties also discussed bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.
NSA Doval was on a two-day visit to Beijing at the invitation of Wang Yi. During this visit, he also met with Chinese Vice President Han Zheng. Meanwhile, the Chinese Foreign Ministry highlighted that China and India are important neighbors and representatives of major developing countries and emerging economies, expressing readiness to enhance mutual understanding, resolve differences, remove obstacles, and foster good neighborly and friendly relations with New Delhi.
According to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry during the meeting, Wang Yi remarked, “China and India are significant neighbors and representatives of major developing countries and emerging economies. The healthy and stable development of China-India relations serves the fundamental interests of both peoples, fulfills the shared aspirations of Global South countries, and aligns with the trends of the times. China-India relations have transcended bilateral dimensions and hold global and strategic significance.”
He further stated, “In recent years, President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Modi have met twice in Kazan and Tianjin, where they reached several important agreements that have set the direction for the improvement and development of bilateral relations. China is prepared to work with India to understand bilateral relations from a strategic and long-term perspective, strengthen dialogue, enhance understanding, resolve differences, remove obstacles, and become good neighbors and friendly partners for mutual benefit, achieving harmonious coexistence between the dragon and the elephant.”
