Beijing, August 26: The 11th APEC Food Security Ministerial Conference took place on Tuesday morning in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China, as part of the “China Year” series of activities. This event is one of the most significant and comprehensive multilateral ministerial conferences related to agriculture in the Asia-Pacific region this year.
Approximately 200 representatives from APEC’s 21 economies, the APEC Secretariat, and various international organizations, including the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization, participated in the conference. The discussions focused on high-level policy issues concerning food security in the Asia-Pacific region.
Currently, challenges such as climate change and fluctuations in supply chains are interconnected, posing serious threats to food security in the Asia-Pacific. The economies in this region are linked through land and sea, with varying agricultural conditions, yet their interests are intertwined. There are also significant opportunities for collaboration and leveraging each other’s strengths in the agricultural sector.
As a key member of APEC, China places great importance on food security. The country’s annual food production has surpassed 700 billion kilograms. By 2025, China’s grain production is projected to reach 715 billion kilograms, with per capita grain availability exceeding 500 kilograms. China has stated its commitment to taking practical steps to enhance regional and global food security in collaboration with all economies.
