Beijing, August 26: On August 25, during the 24th session of the Standing Committee of the 14th National People’s Congress (NPC) held in Beijing, a draft for a ‘Cross-Border Anti-Corruption Law’ was presented for the first time. This legislation aims to protect China’s sovereignty, security, and developmental interests.
Liu Qingwo, the head of the National Supervisory Commission of China, stated that the draft consists of six chapters and 47 articles. It clarifies the principles, scope, and conditions of cross-border anti-corruption efforts. Additionally, it defines the operational mechanisms and responsibilities involved. Provisions have been included to enhance investigations and international cooperation. The draft also specifies legal obligations related to integrity and compliance for enterprises.
The law aims to clarify China’s cross-border anti-corruption policies, ideologies, and principles while contributing Chinese experiences and solutions to global anti-corruption efforts. It will provide practical measures for Chinese enterprises operating abroad, fostering a market-oriented, law-based, and internationally conducive business environment.
Given the expanding scope of foreign investment and the Belt and Road Initiative, this law will establish a robust legal foundation to prevent corruption and ensure healthy business development.
