Shimla, August 25: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhu Vinder Sukhu sharply criticized the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government for corruption during its tenure. He made these remarks while addressing journalists in the assembly on Tuesday, also condemning the opposition’s behavior.
Sukhu stated that the ‘White Paper Committee’ formed to investigate the irregularities of the past government will soon present all findings to the public. He accused the opposition of lacking substantial issues and engaging in “politics without issues.”
Regarding the opposition’s walkout over employment issues, Sukhu expressed his discontent, noting that there had been nearly half an hour of detailed discussion on the matter during question hour. He emphasized that the Speaker had provided ample opportunity for the opposition to ask questions.
He remarked, “Despite this, insisting on additional questions and then leaving the house is not in accordance with parliamentary decorum.” The Chief Minister clarified that the ruling party would not shy away from discussing or responding to any issues. He mentioned that many important matters related to health, employment, and public welfare still need to be addressed in the assembly.
Sukhu stated, “The government is fully prepared to face every tough question from the opposition and respond with facts, but the opposition is looking for excuses to avoid debate.”
He highlighted that the Agnipath scheme has caused significant harm to Himachal Pradesh, particularly affecting the economies of military-heavy districts like Kangra, Bilaspur, Una, and Hamirpur. Sukhu reiterated his support for regular recruitment in the army, noting that the reduction in recruitment quotas has left the youth of Himachal disappointed.
He described the Agnipath scheme as unjust to Himachal, a state known for its four Param Vir Chakra awardees and its soldiers. On the topic of youth employment, Sukhu mentioned that the state government has recruited 1,300 police constables and plans to fill another 1,000 positions in the future. He affirmed the government’s commitment to the welfare of ex-servicemen.
