New Delhi, August 25: Congress leader Supriya Srinet has voiced her opinions on various pressing issues, including caste census, comments by Kangana Ranaut, school funding, and the political landscape in Uttar Pradesh. Speaking on Tuesday, she emphasized that when Rahul Gandhi initiated a public movement, he advocated for a caste survey, stating that a socio-economic and caste survey is essential for the country.
Srinet accused the government of conspiring against backward, extremely backward, and marginalized communities regarding the caste census. She highlighted that the survey includes an open-ended question about one’s caste, complicating the identification of caste numbers due to the various names and languages used across the country. She urged Prime Minister Modi to pay attention to the letter written by Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi regarding the caste survey, insisting that it should benefit the backward classes, tribals, and Dalits.
Commenting on Kangana Ranaut’s remarks, Srinet stated that as an elected MP, one should address critical national issues rather than making disparaging comments about the youth. She criticized Ranaut for labeling the promising youth of the nation as “generation gutter” and pointed out her past remarks about farmers. Srinet expressed concern over Ranaut’s focus on what actresses wear, calling it a reflection of patriarchal mentality.
She further stated that while religious faith deserves funding, the reality remains that many government schools are closing, deteriorating, or lacking basic facilities. Approximately 1.5 lakh government schools do not have toilets for girls, and nearly 90,000 schools are run by just one teacher in a single room.
Srinet stressed the importance of education for India’s progress, questioning the government’s priorities if they neglect this crucial sector. She warned that the upcoming Generation Alpha will demand better facilities, such as fans and sports arrangements in schools.
Discussing the Uttar Pradesh elections, Srinet asserted that the contest is between the people of Uttar Pradesh and the BJP, claiming that the public has decided it is time for the BJP to exit the state.
