New Delhi, September 8 (Daily Kiran) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Gujarat and Maharashtra on Tuesday, September 8, to inaugurate several development projects in both states.
In Vadodara, he will lay the foundation stone for over ₹35,000 crore worth of various projects, as well as inaugurate and dedicate them to the nation. The Prime Minister will also address a gathering during the event.
Later in the evening, around 5:45 PM, he will inaugurate the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026 in Mumbai and deliver a speech.
In Vadodara, Modi will dedicate three crucial segments of the Western Dedicated Freight Corridor (WDFC), which stretches 326 kilometers and has been developed at a cost exceeding ₹20,700 crore. The segments include New Sanand (North) to New Makarpura, New Umbergaon to New Safale, and New Safale to New JNPT.
Officials stated that direct connectivity from the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) will expedite the movement of import-export cargo, strengthen links between industrial centers and ports, reduce logistics costs, and alleviate congestion on Mumbai’s railway network.
“With these segments operational, the Dedicated Freight Corridor (DFC) network will be fully functional along its entire length. This infrastructure will enhance multimodal connectivity, reduce transit times, and facilitate smoother movement of goods across various sectors, bolstering the country’s logistics ecosystem,” officials added.
The Prime Minister will also flag off freight train services from New Sanand (North), New Makarpura, New Umbergaon, and New JNPT. Additionally, he will inaugurate a new passenger train service between Tanda Road and Vadodara (Pratap Nagar).
Modi will dedicate the newly developed Jobat-Tanda Road rail line, part of the Chhota Udepur-Dhar project, which connects remote tribal areas of Alirajpur to the national rail network.
He will also lay the foundation stone for three railway projects costing over ₹9,700 crore, including the third and fourth lines between Vadodara and Ratlam, the gauge conversion of Miyagam Karjan-Choranda-Malsar, and the double-tracking project of Vishwamitri-Dabhoi.
These initiatives are expected to enhance passenger and freight capacity, reduce congestion, and strengthen connectivity between Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
In addition, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for three national highway projects worth approximately ₹1,780 crore. These include the construction of a six-lane segment on NH-48 between Kamrej and Chalthan, major bridge constructions over the Tapi and Narmada rivers on the Vadodara-Surat segment of NH-48, and grade-separated structures at Abhwa, Mindhola, and Khajod junctions on NH-53.
He will also inaugurate various projects worth around ₹2,600 crore initiated by the Gujarat government, including the Vadodara Urban Development Authority Ring Road phase, a 110-megawatt floating solar project at Kadana Dam, and the construction of a new office for the Vadodara Municipal Corporation.
Among the projects being inaugurated are housing initiatives under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY) and a water supply project for 11 villages in eastern Vadodara.
In Mumbai, Modi will open the Global Fintech Fest (GFF) 2026, one of the world’s largest and most influential annual fintech conferences.
The seventh edition of GFF is scheduled from September 8 to September 11.
Since 2020, GFF has emerged as an international thought leadership platform, bringing together policymakers, regulators, central banks, financial institutions, fintech companies, technology firms, investors, academics, and other global stakeholders to discuss the future of finance.
The theme for GFF 2026 is “Impactful Capabilities: Agentic AI, Tokenization, and Reliable, Connected Global Systems for Inclusive Finance.”
Officials noted that GFF 2026 is designed as a convergence point for policy, regulation, technology, capital, and industry.
“The aim is to further strengthen India’s leadership in digital payments and financial inclusion, moving from possibilities to real impact. Discussions will focus on how agentic AI, programmable finance, quantum technology, and other critical emerging technologies can generate reliable, inclusive, and measurable outcomes for citizens, enterprises, and economies globally,” officials said.
