Political Turmoil Erupts Over Controversial Remarks by Baba Bageshwar

New Delhi, September 9 (Daily Kiran) : A political storm has erupted in India following controversial remarks made by Baba Bageshwar, the head of Bageshwar Dham. During the Durga Puja celebrations, he called for a ban on the sale and consumption of meat, which has drawn sharp criticism from the West Bengal Congress. In response, the party lodged a formal complaint at the Bhawanipur police station in Kolkata.

The complaint has intensified political tensions, prompting strong reactions from leaders within the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Bihar Minister Pramod Chandra Vanshi voiced his objections to the Congress’s actions, stating, “The Congress seems to delight in anti-national activities. They take pleasure in insulting the country’s saints and harming Indian culture. They find it difficult whenever patriotism is mentioned.”

Chandra Vanshi defended Baba Bageshwar’s remarks, asserting that he merely aimed to preserve the sanctity of worship for Goddess Durga. He accused Congress of pandering to appeasement politics.

In Jagaddal, West Bengal, Minister Arjun Singh also criticized the Congress, recalling past incidents where the party allegedly ordered violence against saints protesting against cow slaughter. “As for Congress, they have a history of turning against saints and ascetics. We can only pray that God grants them wisdom,” Singh remarked.

Meanwhile, BJP spokesperson Pratul Shah Dev in Ranchi highlighted the party’s complex relationship with Baba Bageshwar. He stated, “Congress has always had a love-hate relationship with saints. When it comes to Hindu leaders, their history is consistent.” He questioned whether Congress would dare to make similar remarks about Muslim religious leaders, accusing the party of targeting Hinduism for political gain while asserting that the public is aware of their tactics.

The controversy continues to unfold as both parties engage in a heated exchange over religious sentiments and political motives.
