Belagavi, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Political tensions have surged in Belagavi, Karnataka, over allegations that 198 Muslim voters’ names were removed from the electoral roll. The controversy centers around BJP leader Dr. Ravi Patil, who has been granted conditional bail amid fears of arrest.
The Second Additional District and Sessions Court in Belagavi granted Dr. Patil relief after he was accused of orchestrating the deletion of these names through a Special Investigation Report (SIR). An FIR has been lodged against him and approximately 20 to 25 others regarding this matter.
Dr. Ravi B. Patil contested the 2023 Karnataka Assembly elections from the Belagavi North constituency on a BJP ticket but faced defeat. The case against him was initiated based on a complaint filed by the Booth Level Officer (BLO) of Ward 12 at the Market Police Station. Following the registration of the case, Dr. Patil reportedly went underground.
The Market Police Station has registered a case, numbered 218/2026, against Dr. Patil, along with Prashant Mundinmani, a staff member at Vijay Hospital, and Shankar Nayak, among others. They are accused of presenting false documents, providing misleading information, and attempting to disrupt law and order in the city. The complaint was filed under various sections of the BNSS Act.
Investigations by the Belagavi Market Police revealed that the alleged incident occurred on September 22 at polling booths 195 and 196 in Veerabhadranagar. The accusations suggest that the individuals attempted to delete the names of legally eligible voters, allegedly using Form Number 7 for this purpose.
Tensions continue to rise as the investigation unfolds, with significant implications for the local political landscape.
