New Delhi, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Newly appointed Punjab Congress President Parag Singh addressed the ongoing discussions about the party’s chief ministerial candidate ahead of the upcoming assembly elections. He firmly stated that there is no truth to the speculation surrounding this issue. Singh also responded to remarks made by Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
Mann had previously claimed that the Congress party was filled with more candidates for the chief minister position than actual workers. In his rebuttal, Singh urged Mann to engage in a more reasoned dialogue. He reassured Mann not to worry, stating that a strong team from Congress would emerge. “We know what needs to be done for Punjab and how to improve its situation,” Singh asserted.
Acknowledging their mutual respect, Singh said, “I know Bhagwant Mann, and he knows me. As an artist, I respect him, and as a player, he respects me. However, people will hold him accountable for what he has done over the past four and a half years.”
Regarding the selection of the chief ministerial face for Punjab Congress, Singh clarified, “There is no such issue. The elected representatives will choose the CLP (Congress Legislative Party) leader. This will naturally follow discussions with the high command.”
On the topic of bringing back Navjot Singh Sidhu, Singh remarked, “He is a good friend and a decent person. He has several responsibilities, including his show and his connection to cricket. Therefore, I believe this is an internal matter between us. I respect him, and he respects me.”
Singh also commented on the recent expulsion of Aam Aadmi Party MLA Sukveer Singh Maisarkhana, who questioned the state of education in Punjab. He stated, “This shows the true face of the Aam Aadmi Party. They used to showcase a model for education and health. Yet, one of their own MLAs claimed that proper arrangements for education are lacking. The swift action taken within two hours is dictatorial. Kejriwal is entirely authoritarian. What they portray is not their reality.”
