Sanaa, October 4 (Daily Kiran) : Late Saturday night, Sanaa, the capital of Yemen controlled by the Houthi group, was shaken by multiple powerful explosions. According to Houthi-owned Al-Masirah TV, Saudi Arabia launched airstrikes on the city once again.
A resident of Sanaa reported to Xinhua News Agency that the sound of fighter jets filled the sky as loud blasts echoed throughout the city. The explosions caused windows to rattle and buildings to shake.
“The blasts were so intense that the ground felt like it was shaking beneath our feet. It felt like an earthquake. Our windows were trembling, and the children woke up in fear,” the local resident said.
Witnesses believe the airstrikes aimed at Houthi positions. As of now, there are no reports of casualties from the attacks.
Earlier on the same day, the Houthi group claimed it had launched ballistic missiles and drones at an Aramco facility in Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh. They stated that the attack was a response to increased Saudi assaults on Yemen.
Xinhua reported that Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed that 60 air and missile strikes occurred in Yemen over the past 24 hours.
Tensions between the Houthis and Saudi Arabia escalated after the Houthi group announced a maritime blockade against Saudi Arabia on July 20. This was followed by a surge in missile and drone attacks, as well as airstrikes across the border.
The conflict intensified further in September after fighting escalated between the Houthis and Yemen’s government forces, which receive substantial support from Saudi Arabia. The Houthis seized control of the strategic port city of Mocha on September 10 and, the following day, captured the strategically significant Mayyun Island.
The struggle in Yemen began in late 2014 when the Houthis took control of Sanaa and large parts of northern Yemen. Subsequently, in March 2015, a Saudi-led coalition initiated military action in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
