With this achievement, she has become one of the leading Indian women to receive this recognition. The award is presented to individuals who have shown remarkable leadership and commitment in supporting people affected by Type 1 Diabetes and spreading awareness.

Speaking on the occasion, Padmaja said that living with Type 1 Diabetes since childhood has allowed her to closely understand its medical and emotional challenges. She pointed out that lack of awareness and social stigma remain major challenges, especially in India. She was diagnosed with the condition at the age of five and later turned her personal journey into a mission by actively working towards patient support and awareness.

Currently serving as a Global Ambassador for Breakthrough T1D, she is contributing at the international level to improve access to treatment and strengthen support systems for patients.

Expressing her emotions, she said the award is deeply personal and dedicated it to her late father, whose inspiration and belief always guided her. She added that the honour belongs to all those who show courage and resilience while living with Type 1 Diabetes.

Following this global achievement, Padmaja Parmar is now set to take forward dialogue on the issue in India. She will address the inauguration of the “Global Summit to End Diabetes Stigma” to be held in Jaipur this month. The international summit will bring together doctors, researchers, policymakers and patient representatives to discuss early diagnosis, treatment accessibility and social stigma related to Type 1 Diabetes.

The summit is being jointly organised by Breakthrough T1D and “The Friends of Mewar,” founded by Padmaja in 2013, which works in preventive healthcare, diabetes awareness, rural eye screening and other community health initiatives.
