Moscow, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : Moscow has firmly rejected Ukraine’s warning regarding the safety of its airspace. The Russian Foreign Ministry stated that Ukraine’s notice misrepresents facts, claiming that Russian airspace is unsafe for civilian aircraft. This, they argue, misleads those using Russian airspace and lacks any legal validity.
In a statement released on its official website, the ministry expressed strong opposition to what it described as Ukraine’s reckless terrorist activities that violate international law. The ministry emphasized that Ukraine’s comments pose a direct threat to civil aviation. According to reports from Xinhua News Agency, relevant Russian officials are in contact with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and have sent an urgent appeal to the organization’s Secretary-General.
The ministry reiterated Russia’s full commitment to ensuring the safety of civil aviation. Earlier this week, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky warned international airlines that Russian airspace is becoming “completely unsafe” due to an increase in missile and drone attacks in response to Ukraine’s military actions.
On Thursday, Russian officials reported that the Ukrainian military had launched hundreds of drone and artillery strikes on the Belgorod and Moscow regions, resulting in one civilian death and injuries to 21 others. Belgorod’s acting governor, Alexander Shuvayev, noted that there had been 178 attacks in the past 24 hours, including artillery shelling and drone strikes that caused one fatality.
Moscow’s Mayor Sergey Sobyanin reported that Russian air defense systems shot down 548 drones targeting the Moscow region between Wednesday morning and Thursday afternoon. Regional governor Andrei Vorobyov mentioned that a drone attack on a plant in the Bogorodsky district of Moscow region had caused a fire, with emergency teams responding to the incident.
Earlier this week, Russian President Vladimir Putin stated that negotiations with Ukraine have stalled, dismissing reports suggesting a new wave of mobilization would occur after the State Duma elections as “nonsense.” He affirmed Russia’s support for substantive negotiations and welcomed any efforts contributing to ending the conflict. Putin expressed hope for lasting peace in Ukraine and across Europe, stating that Russia is ready to engage in discussions with any party interested in a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
