Udaipur : With just a month left for the Vedanta Zinc City Half Marathon 2026, more than 5,500 runners have already registered for the event, which will be held on September 6. The third edition of the marathon is being organised on a larger scale this year, bringing professional athletes, amateur runners, families, students and corporate teams together under the message of “One Run, One Community.”

Organised by Hindustan Zinc Limited in association with Anybody Can Run, the marathon is AIMS-certified and affiliated with World Athletics. The route passes through some of Udaipur’s most iconic locations, including Fateh Sagar Lake, the Aravalli hills and historic landmarks, making the event increasingly popular among runners from across India and abroad. Beyond promoting fitness, the marathon also supports social causes through the Run for Zero Hunger campaign.

More than 800 participants have registered for the 21.097-km half marathon, while over 1,500 runners have signed up for the 10-km Cool Run and more than 3,200 participants have registered for the 5-km Dream Run. Last year, more than 7,000 runners from 27 states and several countries participated in the event. Organisers expect an even stronger participation from national and international runners this year, further strengthening Udaipur’s identity as a leading running destination.

Udaipur-based runner Ashmika Sharma, who has participated in the previous two editions, said the experience of running amid the city’s lakes, heritage sites and the Aravalli landscape was special. She said she was excited to participate in the 21-km half marathon this year and described the event as more than just a race, calling it a celebration of the beauty, energy and community spirit of Zinc City.

The marathon will start from Field Club, Udaipur. The 21.097-km route will pass through prominent locations such as Fateh Sagar Pal, Rotary Circle, Sunset Point Park, Nehru Garden and Saheliyon Ki Bari. The 10-km and 5-km routes have also been designed to accommodate participants across different age groups and fitness levels. With pleasant September weather and improved arrangements, the organisers expect participants to have a memorable experience.

US runner Amanda Daskolias, a former US Army sergeant and mother of three, said running had always represented discipline and determination for her. She said participating in the Vedanta Zinc City Half Marathon would give her an opportunity to experience Udaipur in a unique way. She also highlighted the route through the city’s lakes, Aravalli range and rich heritage as one of the attractions of the event.

Along with promoting fitness and an active lifestyle, the marathon is also giving a boost to Udaipur’s tourism and hospitality sector. The event is expected to benefit local hotels, restaurants, transportation services and other businesses. Over the past two years, the marathon has played an important role in establishing Udaipur as a destination for sports tourism and experience-driven events.
