Udaipur, August 19, 2026: Vedanta Group company Hindustan Zinc Limited has increased the share of renewable energy in its total electricity consumption to 22 per cent, up from around 18 per cent in FY2026. The company is moving towards its target of meeting around 70 per cent of its total electricity requirement from renewable sources by FY2028.

Hindustan Zinc is strengthening its clean energy capacity across its operations in Rajasthan and Uttarakhand. The company generated 892 million units of green energy in FY2026, compared with 632 million units in FY2025. The increase in green energy generation and renewable power purchases has steadily raised the share of clean energy in its overall energy mix.

To achieve its 70 per cent renewable energy target, the company has increased its round-the-clock renewable energy supply agreement with Serentica Renewables from 450 MW to 530 MW. It is also upgrading connectivity from the state transmission network to the central transmission network.

The company is working on several initiatives to improve energy efficiency, enhance waste heat recovery boiler capacity and develop floating solar projects on reservoirs.

Hindustan Zinc’s renewable energy portfolio includes a mix of solar, wind and energy storage solutions, providing clean and reliable electricity for its operations around the clock. The contribution of renewable energy is expected to increase further as additional capacity is added.

Hindustan Zinc CEO Amarendu Prakash said the next phase of growth in the metals and mining industry would depend on increasing production while reducing environmental impact. He said the company aims to increase renewable energy’s share in total electricity consumption from 22 per cent to 70 per cent by FY2028.

He added that clean energy is not only a means to reduce carbon emissions but also a foundation for building a stronger, more competitive and responsible business.

The company’s move towards clean energy is linked to its long-term growth objectives. Along with increasing production capacity, Hindustan Zinc is focusing on reducing the carbon intensity of its operations.

Apart from renewable energy, the company is also promoting clean transportation and new energy technologies. Hindustan Zinc has increased the use of electric vehicles in its operations and recently deployed India’s first 250-tonne-capacity electric crane at the Zinc Smelter in Debari, Rajasthan.

The company has also signed MoUs with Adventec Associates LLP and Aero Eagle Automobiles Private Limited to study the potential of green hydrogen and alternative clean energy solutions for underground mining, heavy machinery, vehicles and other operational equipment.

These initiatives are part of Hindustan Zinc’s broader sustainability strategy and support its Net Zero 2050 or earlier target, validated by the Science Based Targets initiative. The company has been recognised as the world’s most sustainable metals and mining company in the S&P Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment and is also a member of the International Council on Mining and Metals.

As Hindustan Zinc moves towards its next phase of growth and a multi-metal future, it is placing clean energy at the centre of its strategy to produce metals required for India’s development journey and the global energy transition in a more responsible and sustainable manner.
