South Kordofan, September 5 (Daily Kiran) : In South Kordofan, Sudan, two separate attacks have resulted in the deaths of at least 26 individuals, with dozens more injured. The Sudan Doctors Network reported on Friday that the assaults occurred on Thursday afternoon, when forces from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N) targeted the areas of Debi and Luwari, located south and west of Kauda. This group is allied with the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF). The attack reportedly claimed the lives of over 21 people, including women and children, and left many others wounded.
In a separate incident early Friday, SPLM-N gunfire in the city of Dilling resulted in the deaths of five people, including a child, along with additional injuries. The network condemned the attacks, labeling them a violation of a ceasefire agreement reached at the end of August, and accused SPLM-N of deliberately targeting civilians.
Medical sources from a local hospital in Debi informed Xinhua that over 20 bodies and 11 injured individuals were brought in. Fearing deteriorating humanitarian conditions, many residents are fleeing the area. An eyewitness in Dilling reported that artillery shells struck residential neighborhoods, leading to civilian casualties and further injuries. SPLM-N has not responded to these allegations.
Established in 2011, SPLM-N controls parts of South Kordofan and Blue Nile states. Ongoing clashes between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and RSF alongside SPLM-N are part of a broader conflict that erupted in April 2023. This ongoing struggle has resulted in thousands of deaths and has displaced millions both within and outside the country.
