New Delhi, April 26: According to an update released by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas on Sunday, over 5.18 million domestic LPG cylinders were distributed on Saturday. The ministry confirmed that the supply of cooking gas to retail distributors remains normal, with no reports of shortages.
Additionally, since March of this year, 545,000 PNG connections have been gasified, and infrastructure has been prepared for an additional 262,000 connections. The statement noted that over 42,500 PNG consumers have surrendered their LPG connections through the website.
Meanwhile, online bookings for domestic LPG cylinders have surged by 98%. To prevent manipulation at the distributor level, there has been a nearly 94% increase in delivery based on authentication codes sent to consumers’ registered mobile numbers.
Despite the current geopolitical situation affecting overall LPG supply, priority has been given to the supply of cooking gas for domestic use.
On Saturday, more than 9,131 metric tons of commercial LPG (equivalent to 480,000 19-kilogram cylinders) were sold, bringing the total sales for the month to 164,655 metric tons (equivalent to 8.66 million 19-kilogram LPG cylinders).
In an effort to curb LPG hoarding and black marketing, enforcement campaigns are ongoing nationwide. More than 2,100 raids were conducted on Saturday alone.
Public sector oil marketing companies have increased surprise inspections and have imposed fines on 310 LPG distributors, with 70 distributors suspended so far.
The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has stated that, in light of the closure of the Hormuz Strait, it is taking steps to ensure the uninterrupted availability of petroleum products and LPG across the country.
Citizens are advised against panic buying of petrol, diesel, and LPG, and to remain cautious of rumors. They are encouraged to rely on official sources for accurate information. LPG consumers are requested to use digital booking platforms and avoid visiting distributors in person.
