Kabul, April 26: A tragic road accident in Helmand province, southern Afghanistan, resulted in the deaths of two individuals and left five others injured, as reported by local media outlet Tolo News.
The incident occurred in the outskirts of Khanashin district, where two passengers died at the scene, and five others sustained injuries.
According to Xinhua News Agency, all injured victims were transported to a nearby health center for treatment.
Road accidents are a leading cause of fatalities in Afghanistan, primarily due to poor road conditions, speeding, overloading, reckless driving, and inadequate safety measures on congested highways.
On April 10, a local police officer reported that a vehicle collided with a house in Logar province, eastern Afghanistan, resulting in one death and 15 injuries. Provincial police spokesperson Mawlavi Ahmadullah Anas stated that reckless driving was the cause of this accident.
Similarly, on April 8, in neighboring Nangarhar province, one person died, and 35 others were injured in a related incident.
Traffic accidents are a significant cause of death in Afghanistan, where reckless driving on crowded roads and poor highway conditions frequently lead to tragic outcomes in this war-torn country.
In March, Badakhshan police command presented alarming statistics regarding traffic violations and negligence. Spokesperson Ehsanullah Kamgar revealed that a total of 122 traffic accidents were recorded in the province during the 2025-2026 period.
These incidents resulted in 136 fatalities, including women, men, and children, along with 175 additional injuries. Kamgar attributed these accidents to the same issues reported by spokespeople from other provinces, citing a lack of proper safety standards on transport routes and unprofessional behavior from some drivers.
