Tel Aviv, April 26: G.P. Hotovely has been appointed as the head of Israel’s National Public Diplomacy Directorate. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the decision to appoint Hotovely, which was subsequently approved unanimously by the Israeli cabinet.
The National Public Diplomacy Directorate operates under the Prime Minister’s office and is a key institution responsible for enhancing Israel’s image internationally, managing media campaigns, and coordinating public diplomacy efforts during times of war or crisis.
Prime Minister Netanyahu and other ministers welcomed this appointment, wishing G.P. success in this crucial role. She will assume her responsibilities on May 5, 2026.
Regarding her educational background, Hotovely holds both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Law and is a certified lawyer. She has served in various senior public service positions, including Minister of Settlement, Minister of Diaspora Affairs, Deputy Foreign Minister, and Israeli Ambassador to the UK.
Throughout her diverse roles, Hotovely has worked extensively to promote Israel’s global image. She has frequently been interviewed by international media outlets and has advanced advocacy efforts during wartime.
This appointment follows a recommendation from the Appointment Committee, headed by the Civil Service Commissioner. The committee reviewed Hotovely’s candidacy last Thursday and officially recommended her appointment to the government.
The previous head of the Directorate, Moshik Aviv, passed away in May 2024, and no successor had been appointed until now. Israel has faced criticism from both allies and adversaries worldwide while engaging in multiple fronts of conflict.
According to The Times of Israel, Hotovely, a member of Netanyahu’s right-wing Likud party and former Deputy Foreign Minister, has faced criticism for her comments in recent years. In 2017, she stated that American Jews never send their children to fight for their country. However, she later apologized for this statement. Hotovely served as Israel’s ambassador in London from 2020 to 2025.
