Opposition Criticizes Bihar Government Over Security Reduction for Lalu and Rabri Prasad

New Delhi, June 7: Leaders from the opposition ‘India’ alliance targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Bihar government on Saturday. This criticism arose following the reduction of security for Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. The BJP mocked the duo, stating that security coverage is not a “status symbol.”

Pappu Yadav, a Member of Parliament from Purnia, accused the Bihar government of diverting attention from real issues. He emphasized that discussions on such matters should be avoided. “I would urge Tejashwi Yadav as well, this is not a debate issue; you are a leader of a strong society. The government always targets the opposition. They have no other issues,” he stated.

Congress leader Arif Naseem Khan described the situation as “unfortunate.” He remarked, “The manner in which the BJP, whether at the central or state level, is attempting to suppress and intimidate opposition leaders is extremely concerning. It is gradually weakening the country’s democracy.”

Naseem Khan condemned the incident, asserting, “Leaders who require security while traveling everywhere should be provided adequate protection, and necessary steps must be taken to ensure this.”

However, Union Minister Giriraj Singh stated that there are specific government rules regarding security. If individuals meet those criteria, they are granted protection. He questioned how security could be provided if they do not fulfill those conditions. “If they are doing this for a ‘status symbol,’ then Lalu Yadav should tell Chief Minister (Samrat Chaudhary) that ‘this is our status symbol, please provide us security,'” he commented.

Bihar BJP President Sanjay Sarawagi noted, “It is good that they (Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav) do not want security; still, the government is willing to provide them protection as former Chief Ministers.”

Upendra Kushwaha, head of the National Lok Morcha and MP, stated that the Bihar government had taken necessary steps, and in response, Rabri Devi and Lalu Prasad Yadav relinquished their security.

JD(U) spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad claimed this was a deliberate attempt to create discord. He mentioned that it is the government’s process to determine security for leaders, which should be respected.
