Jalandhar, September 29 (Daily Kiran) : Central Home Minister Amit Shah is set to address a significant rally in Jalandhar, Punjab, on September 30. This event marks the conclusion of the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) ‘Nasha Mukta Punjab Yatra’, a state-wide campaign aimed at combating drug addiction, which has spanned all 117 assembly constituencies.
The rally is seen as a crucial political mobilization for the BJP ahead of the 2027 state assembly elections. The campaign, which began on September 18, involved four simultaneous journeys covering nearly 4,000 kilometers across Punjab.
The primary goal of this initiative is to raise awareness about drug addiction and garner public support for a drug-free Punjab. Party leaders anticipate that around 200,000 people will attend the rally. The BJP has arranged the event on a 50-55 acre site, with approximately 40 acres designated for the main gathering and the remainder for parking. About 2,000 buses are expected to transport party workers and supporters to Jalandhar from various parts of the state.
During the rally, the BJP plans to highlight the plight of families affected by substance abuse. Shah’s visit comes at a time when the BJP is intensifying its political activities in Punjab, making drug issues a central election topic. The party has been critical of the ruling Aam Aadmi Party government regarding its approach to tackling drug-related problems.
BJP leaders describe the campaign as a concerted effort to raise awareness about substance abuse and engage the public in the fight against addiction. To ensure the event’s success, state party president Keval Singh Dhillon and state in-charge Satish Poonia visited the rally site to review preparations. They discussed security, traffic management, parking, and other logistical arrangements with officials.
Dhillon emphasized that the rally is not merely a political event but a significant public awareness campaign aimed at freeing Punjab from drug issues. He noted that the BJP is actively reaching out to the community, using the ‘Nasha Mukta Punjab Yatra’ to educate people in villages and towns about the dangers of addiction.
