Patna, June 6: Jitan Ram Manjhi, the Union Minister for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and founder of the Hindustani Awam Morcha (Secular), has commented on the Bihar government’s decision to reduce security for RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi. He stated that such security decisions fall within the government’s jurisdiction and are made considering overall security needs.
During a press conference on Saturday, Manjhi emphasized that the government makes decisions with the safety of all citizens in mind. He remarked that providing or altering security is part of an administrative process. If anyone disagrees with this decision, they should respectfully present their concerns to the government. He firmly stated that protests or movements regarding this issue are inappropriate.
Recently, the Bihar Home Department issued an order to cut back on the security provided to Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi. This decision was made following a review of security arrangements by the state security committee. According to the state government, this action was based on recommendations made during a committee meeting held on June 4.
Additionally, the government order also terminated the ‘Y’ category security previously assigned to Lalu’s elder son and former minister, Tej Pratap Yadav.
In response to this decision, the RJD has criticized the government, alleging that the reduction in security is politically motivated and aims to target senior opposition leaders. RJD leaders argue that diminishing the security of prominent figures like Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi sends a negative message. They have also raised questions about the timing of this decision.
The controversy intensified as political tensions grew surrounding the family’s government residence at 10 Circular Road. Opposition leaders and RJD workers have staged protests to express their support on this matter.
However, the Bihar government has clarified that changes in security are entirely part of an administrative process and are based on official security review recommendations, not political reasons.
