Washington, July 24: The US Central Command announced that the American military initiated another round of attacks on Iranian military bases on Thursday evening (local time). This marks the 13th consecutive night of strikes against Iran.
According to a post on the social media platform X, the attacks began at 6:45 PM Eastern Time. The objective was to “hold Iran accountable and reduce threats to commercial shipping posed by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.”
The command further stated that since the resumption of the naval blockade against Iran earlier this month, the US military has redirected 12 commercial vessels and prevented one from entering or leaving Iranian ports or coastal areas.
“Since the naval blockade against Iran was reinstated nine days ago, CENTCOM has redirected 12 commercial ships and halted one to prevent it from accessing Iranian ports or coastal areas,” the command noted.
Earlier on Thursday, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran claimed to have intercepted three oil tankers attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, one of which caught fire following an explosion.
In a statement reported by Iranian state media, the IRGC said, “Provoked by the American military, which kills children, three oil tankers were trying to navigate a mine-laden route south of the Strait of Hormuz. After one exploded and caught fire, the other two quickly turned back.”
The IRGC also warned that any vessel attempting to pass through without Iran’s approval would face a similar fate.
On Wednesday (Washington Time), the US military conducted strikes across Iran for the 12th consecutive night. Iranian state media reported that US missiles targeted locations near the cities of Ahvaz, Ramshir, and Andimeshk in western Iran, as well as a power station near the Bushehr nuclear power plant in southern Iran.
Earlier on Thursday, US President Donald Trump informed Axios that he is considering resuming major combat operations in Iran, which would include attacks larger than those initiated in Operation Epic Fury that began on February 28.
