Washington, July 24: The anticipation is building for Chinese President Xi Jinping’s upcoming visit to the United States. On Thursday, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that Xi is expected to arrive at the White House in September.
This visit signals another high-level meeting between the leaders of the world’s two largest economies amid ongoing strategic competition in trade, technology, and security.
Trump made this announcement while hosting the 2025 World Series champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, at the White House. He referenced the upcoming visit while showcasing the newly constructed White House grounds and the Oval Office to the players.
He stated, “King Charles was here three weeks ago. President Xi is coming in the next three weeks. He will be here in September.”
Trump emphasized the significance of the Oval Office, saying, “We are just steps away from the most powerful office in the world, where everything begins, ends, and begins again.”
In a light-hearted manner, he added, “It’s a great place for discussions because when people enter the Oval Office, they often feel a bit uncomfortable and confused. That’s when I have the best opportunity to talk with them.”
However, Trump did not provide any additional details regarding the proposed meeting, its agenda, or any potential agreements.
Earlier on Thursday, during the ‘Ratepayer Protection Pledge’ event, Trump mentioned the global competition in artificial intelligence, also referencing Xi’s planned visit.
He noted, “President Xi is coming here on September 24. We discussed this when I was in Beijing, and we will discuss it again.”
Trump asserted that the U.S. still leads China in the field of artificial intelligence, stressing the need for significant investment in power generation and data center infrastructure to maintain this advantage.
While welcoming the Los Angeles Dodgers at the White House, Trump praised the team for winning the World Series for the second consecutive time. He remarked, “For the first time in the proud history of this famous franchise, you have achieved the honor of being champions twice in a row.”
He also highlighted the achievements of Japanese baseball star Shohei Ohtani, calling him an international sensation, saying, “He is amazing. Everyone loves him.”
Trump compared Ohtani’s rare dual ability as both a pitcher and a batter to that of baseball legend Babe Ruth, stating, “If someone told me that a player could be the best pitcher and the best batter at the same time, I might not believe it.”
Dodgers owner Mark Walter expressed gratitude to Trump for hosting the team, stating, “We are grateful to be here after another great season, which many consider the greatest World Series ever.”
He added that winning consecutive championships showcases “the talent, determination, and character of everyone in the organization.”
Manager Dave Roberts expressed hope that the team would become the first Major League Baseball team to win three consecutive World Series titles in over three decades, saying, “We want to win a third time.”
Later, Trump presented the team with commemorative White House challenge coins and invited the players to the Oval Office, calling it the most powerful office in the world.
