Bucharest, July 24: President Droupadi Murmu concluded the final leg of her three-nation European tour with a visit to the ‘Tomb of the Unknown Soldier’ in Bucharest, Romania, on Friday.
The President’s Secretariat shared on social media platform ‘X’, stating, “President Droupadi Murmu paid tribute at the ‘Tomb of the Unknown Soldier’ in Bucharest, Romania. This monument symbolizes Romania’s gratitude to soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country and is regarded as a national emblem of patriotism, unity, and peace.”
Earlier in the day, President Murmu addressed the India-Romania Business Forum held in Bucharest. The event was attended by Romanian President Nicolae Ciucă, members of the Romanian government, representatives from the Indian and Romanian business sectors, and members of industry organizations from both countries.
The President emphasized that the goal of ‘Developed India 2047’ is to transform India into a developed nation by the centenary of its independence. She highlighted numerous opportunities for international partnerships, investments, and technological cooperation during this journey.
She urged Romanian companies to actively participate in India’s development trajectory.
Following the forum, the President’s Secretariat noted, “With a shared market of nearly two billion people and an economy of approximately $25 trillion, the India-European Union (EU) Free Trade Agreement (FTA) is one of the most significant economic partnerships globally. Its aim is to enhance trade, boost investments, and create robust and diverse supply chains.”
The President stressed the urgent need for the effective implementation of this FTA. This will foster a reliable business environment, improve coordination within value chains, and open new opportunities for MSMEs, startups, and innovators on both sides.
She expressed confidence that the globally acclaimed digital public infrastructure of India, its rapidly growing startup ecosystem, and its strong presence in information technology (IT) could collaborate effectively with Romania’s strengths in software engineering, cybersecurity, research, and advanced technology.
The President reiterated her belief that business leaders from India and Romania would seize these new opportunities and transform them into successful commercial partnerships. She once again encouraged Romanian companies to engage actively in India’s development journey.
