Jaipur, July 24: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall in the southwestern districts of Rajasthan as the monsoon becomes active again. Deputy Director Himanshu Sharma indicated that intense rainfall is expected to continue for the next two days across several districts in the state. Areas particularly at risk include Jalore, Sirohi, Dungarpur, Banswara, Udaipur, and Rajsamand.
Sharma explained that the active monsoon system has already led to widespread rainfall in various parts of the state over the past two days. The monsoon has entered an active phase once more, resulting in significant rainfall in multiple locations. However, the system has now shifted westward, moving the primary rainfall zone towards southwestern Rajasthan. In the last 24 hours, Pachpadra in Barmer district recorded 90 mm of rain, while Amet in Rajsamand district saw 87 mm.
According to the IMD, the currently active system has moved towards southwestern Rajasthan. As a result, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in several districts of the Jodhpur and Udaipur divisions, including Sirohi, Jalore, Udaipur, and Dungarpur. Heavy rainfall is also expected in areas adjacent to Barmer, Balotra, Banswara, Pratapgarh, Udaipur, and Rajsamand.
The IMD clarified that the impact of this weather system will primarily persist in southwestern Rajasthan on Saturday, although the number of districts experiencing heavy rainfall may decrease. Specifically, Jalore, Sirohi, and surrounding areas could still see heavy to very heavy rainfall in some locations.
Himanshu Sharma noted that while the rainfall will continue in the state, the period of heavy and very heavy rainfall is expected to last mainly for the next two days. Following this, rainfall activities will gradually diminish, with only isolated heavy showers likely. The influence of the current monsoon system is expected to weaken over the next three to four days.
The department has advised residents in districts under heavy rainfall warnings to avoid unnecessary travel, remain cautious of potential flooding in low-lying areas, and adhere to guidelines issued by authorities. Local administration and disaster management agencies have also been instructed to stay alert given the forecast of heavy rainfall.
