New Delhi, June 8: The Karawal Nagar assembly constituency in Delhi received a significant boost with the announcement of development projects worth ₹150 crore on Sunday. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, alongside Union Minister Harsh Malhotra, Minister Pravesh Verma, Minister Kapil Mishra, MP Manoj Tiwari, MLA Ajay Mahawar, and other representatives, laid the foundation stone and inaugurated various development initiatives. During the event, the Chief Minister emphasized that development efforts in Karawal Nagar are progressing rapidly, and the Delhi government aims to ensure that no area of the capital is left behind in the development agenda.
After the program, Minister Kapil Mishra spoke to the media about the government’s commitment to cleaning the Yamuna River. He stated that a sewer network is being installed in areas that previously lacked sewer lines. The wastewater will be treated at sewage treatment plants (STPs) before being released into the Yamuna, helping to reduce pollution in the river. The allocation of ₹150 crore for development in a single assembly constituency is a significant achievement, reflecting the government’s seriousness about development.
Mishra noted that the inauguration of sewer line installation works has begun in the Karawal Nagar assembly area. Ongoing projects are in Shri Ram Colony and Sonia Vihar, while work is set to commence in Sabhapur. He mentioned that the process to resume stalled projects in areas where sewer lines have already been laid is underway. Additionally, construction of streets in unauthorized colonies, installation of streetlights, road repairs, and the establishment of CCTV cameras are among the various development efforts being undertaken. He explained that the total ₹150 crore for these initiatives is sourced from the Chief Minister’s development fund, unauthorized colony development fund, MLA fund, and the Delhi Jal Board’s budget.
During the event, discussions also took place regarding issues related to the ‘O-Zone’ in the Karawal Nagar area. Mishra confirmed that Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has assured that no bricks from anyone’s home will be removed. He reiterated the government’s commitment to protecting the interests of the public and assured that they will handle this matter responsibly.
Targeting the previous government, Mishra stated that this issue dates back to 2014, and the legal processes related to it were initiated during their tenure. He accused the former government of adopting a stance in court that was contrary to public interests. He added that the current government is reviewing these old positions and that the Chief Minister has made it clear that no existing homes will be harmed.
A significant announcement regarding the double-pushta road project was also made by the Chief Minister. Mishra mentioned that the project design is ready, and the process has begun. However, as it is linked to the Yamuna Standing Committee and the National Green Tribunal (NGT), obtaining the necessary approvals may take time. He expressed confidence that following the Chief Minister’s announcement, the process for advancing this project would accelerate.
Regarding concerns about road and street repairs after the sewer line installation, Mishra stated that contractors are responsible for completing the repair work to high standards after excavation. He noted that inspections have been conducted at several locations, and where deficiencies were found, manhole chambers and covers are being replaced. He assured that the tender process for reconstructing all streets will commence after the sewer work is completed, ensuring better roads and infrastructure for residents.
