New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : The Ministry of External Affairs in India has confirmed that an Indian sailor is missing after an attack on the commercial vessel MT Al Gaya near the coast of Oman on Sunday.
In a statement, the ministry condemned the attack, noting that out of the 14 Indian crew members aboard, 13 have been rescued. Efforts are ongoing to locate the missing sailor.
The Indian embassy in Oman is closely monitoring the situation and is actively coordinating with Omani authorities regarding the search and rescue operations. The ministry expressed gratitude to Omani officials for their assistance in rescuing Indian citizens.
Additionally, the ministry reiterated its call for immediate de-escalation of tensions and emphasized the need for dialogue and diplomacy to restore peace in the region. They condemned attacks on commercial vessels, sailors, and civilian infrastructure, urging for the swift resumption of safe navigation and trade through international waterways.
The Indian embassy has been keeping a close watch on the ongoing search and rescue operation. They posted on social media platform X, stating, “The mission is monitoring the ongoing search and rescue operation for 14 Indian nationals aboard the Panama-flagged tanker MT Al Gaya. The SAR operation for 13 Indian nationals has been completed, and they have been safely brought to shore. Omani officials are continuing their efforts to locate the missing crew member, and we thank them for their ongoing support.”
Last month, the Ministry had condemned an attack on the Indian-flagged commercial vessel MSV Faiz Noor-e-Olia, which sank near the coast of Yemen in the Red Sea. The ministry confirmed that all 13 Indian crew members were rescued, with the Indian embassy in Riyadh actively coordinating with Yemeni authorities to ensure their safety.
