New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : The BRICS Summit 2026 in New Delhi has sparked significant discussions regarding India’s defense preparedness and foreign policy. Reports indicate that Russia has offered India advanced Sukhoi SU-57 aircraft. Defense expert Ranjit Rai stated that while Indian forces have strengthened post-Operation Sindoor, the nation still urgently requires fighter jets.
Jagwinder Singh Virk, Chairman of the Australia-India Strategic Alliance, emphasized that India has always been a symbol of peace. He praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for acting as a ‘Sarpanch,’ or leader, in uniting the world.
Regarding the offer of advanced Sukhoi aircraft, Rai noted, “It’s important to understand that after Operation Sindoor, India’s defense forces have become quite robust. However, no country rests on its laurels; all nations continuously enhance their security because the future is uncertain.” He pointed out the pressing need for fighter jets, mentioning that while 114 Rafales are in the pipeline, there are concerns about France not providing the necessary software. He added that discussions with Russia about the SU-57 have surfaced in the media. India had previously invested in the SU-57 and was collaborating with Russia on its development, making this a plausible option.
Amid growing defense ties with Russia, Rai commented on India’s strategic balance. He highlighted that agreements and discussions between India and Russia reflect strong and reliable relations. India has benefited significantly from cooperation in various sectors, including oil, energy, trade, nuclear submarines, the S-400 system, and SU-30 aircraft. Additionally, India has also collaborated with the United States and European nations, a strategy referred to as strategic autonomy.
Rai noted that even China recognizes the benefits India has gained from this policy. Consequently, during the summit, it became clear that Chinese President Xi Jinping expressed a willingness to resolve border issues, emphasizing the need to address disputes. National Security Advisor Ajit Doval recently visited China and mentioned the ‘early harvest’ concept, indicating that efforts made are soon to bear fruit.
At the BRICS Summit, Virk reiterated India’s long-standing opposition to war. “PM Modi has consistently stated that we are against war. India is unique in its approach to defense,” he remarked. “Our principles and strategies have remained consistent. Whenever conflicts arise, India has opposed them, asserting that we stand for peace.”
Virk praised PM Modi’s efforts, stating that he has effectively played the role of a ‘Sarpanch’ by bringing together leaders from 21 countries and advocating for collective action.
Additionally, Maharashtra Minister Ashish Jaiswal commented on the BRICS Summit, calling it a crucial initiative for national development. He noted that Maharashtra has attracted the most investment and is preparing a roadmap to further strengthen its economy.
