Kolkata, June 7: Before taking office, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari pledged to stand with the families of BJP workers who were victims of violence following the 2021 state elections. After his swearing-in, he promised jobs to the families of the deceased.
During a meeting at the New Town Convention Center on Sunday, Adhikari made a significant announcement. He stated that one member from each of the 315 families of deceased party workers would receive appointment letters by the end of June. Additionally, a one-time financial aid of 500,000 rupees will be provided from the Chief Minister‘s relief fund.
The BJP had exerted considerable effort to gain power in West Bengal during the 2021 assembly elections. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah frequently visited the state for campaigning, aiming to win 200 seats. However, they fell short of this target.
The BJP did not even surpass the 80-seat mark, while the Trinamool Congress returned to power with a full majority. Following the election victory, the Trinamool Congress was accused of unleashing a wave of violence against BJP workers across the state. Reports indicated that homes of BJP workers were vandalized and that 321 BJP workers were allegedly killed. Legal battles related to these incidents yielded little resolution.
In the 2026 assembly elections, the people of West Bengal granted the BJP a full majority. Consequently, victims and families of the deceased hoped for justice, and the new BJP government is now fulfilling those expectations.
After the political shift, Adhikari visited Falta during the campaign and announced that government jobs would be provided to the family members of party workers killed in post-election violence. He also assured support to those who were attacked.
Naturally, this promise brought a glimmer of hope to the families of the deceased, although doubts remained regarding the timeline for job placements.
Now, Adhikari has made a new announcement that appointment letters will be issued to one member of each deceased victim’s family within this month. Additionally, a one-time financial grant of 500,000 rupees will also be provided.
This announcement has brought relief to the families of the deceased.
