New Delhi, September 13 (Daily Kiran) : India and Paraguay have marked the 65th anniversary of their diplomatic relations by reaffirming their commitment to enhance cooperation. The Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the progress made over the years, emphasizing a friendship built on mutual respect and understanding.
The anniversary signifies over six decades of dialogue and shared commitment to bringing the two nations closer. Both governments reiterated their intention to deepen collaboration in strategic areas of common interest, focusing on initiatives to boost economic and trade exchanges.
A joint commitment was made to elevate this relationship into a new phase of cooperation, prosperity, and mutual benefit. Diplomatic ties were established in September 1961, and since then, warm and friendly relations have flourished. In recent years, bilateral cooperation has expanded across various sectors, including trade, agriculture, health, pharmaceuticals, and information technology.
Paraguay has emerged as one of India’s growing trade partners in the Latin American region. In June 2025, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña Palacios held extensive bilateral talks at Hyderabad House in New Delhi, aiming to invigorate diplomatic and economic partnerships. President Peña Palacios was on a three-day official visit to India.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral relations, including trade and investment, health and pharmaceuticals, defense and security, infrastructure, and mining. During the talks, Modi described Peña Palacios’s visit as historic, marking only the second time a Paraguayan president has visited India. He emphasized that collaborative efforts between the two nations could pave the way for shared development and prosperity.
Modi also noted that both India and Paraguay are integral parts of the Global South, sharing similar hopes, aspirations, and challenges.
