Kejriwal Accuses Gujarat Government of Arresting AAP Workers Amid Rising Popularity

New Delhi, April 2: Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and former Chief Minister of Delhi, has written to Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel requesting a meeting. He has accused the Gujarat government of arresting a large number of AAP workers.

In his letter to Chief Minister Patel, Kejriwal stated that ahead of the upcoming panchayat and municipal elections, AAP workers are being unlawfully detained on a massive scale. Over 160 workers have already been arrested, with plans to detain more than 10,000. “The BJP is panicking due to AAP’s growing popularity,” he said. “The people of Gujarat do not approve of such arrests and thuggery; they will respond.”

Kejriwal’s letter highlighted that the BJP has been in power in Gujarat for the past 30 years. He claimed that the public is fed up with the corruption and oppression of the BJP’s misrule. He accused the BJP of colluding with Congress to govern Gujarat for three decades. “For the first time, the Aam Aadmi Party offers a strong alternative. People recognize AAP as a fearless, honest, and educated party. AAP will never compromise with the BJP. This is why AAP’s popularity has surged in Gujarat,” he wrote. “It is now common knowledge that the BJP is on its way out, and AAP is coming to power. In response, the BJP has concocted a conspiracy to arrest AAP leaders and workers to eliminate the party.”

The letter also mentioned that in the last three months, more than 160 AAP workers have been arrested by the BJP government in Gujarat. The police even detained AAP’s state president, Ishudan Garhvi, who was released late at night after seeking information about the illegal arrests of his workers. The police actions have intensified ahead of the local body elections, suggesting that the BJP aims to win through police intimidation.

Kejriwal alleged that a clear pattern has emerged in the arrests of AAP workers by Gujarat police over the past 48 hours. He described incidents where AAP workers are stopped on the road by thugs on scooters or motorcycles, who then assault and verbally abuse them. These thugs reportedly call the crime branch, which arrives within minutes to arrest the AAP workers, indicating a coordinated effort.

Kejriwal expressed his desire to meet with Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, along with Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, to discuss these issues. He hopes Patel will grant a meeting time soon.
