Bengaluru, June 5: Senior Congress leader H.K. Patil expressed concerns on Friday regarding the resignation of Karnataka minister Ramalinga Reddy, describing it as a warning sign for the Shivakumar government.
Patil referenced media reports about Reddy’s resignation and mentioned that he had spoken to him over the phone afterward. Addressing reporters in Bengaluru, Patil stated that Reddy is his friend, and he reached out to him personally to understand the situation better. During their conversation, Reddy conveyed his concerns and urged the party leadership to address the matter promptly.
Later, H.K. Patil took to X to reiterate his appeal to Reddy, urging him to reconsider his decision in the broader interest of the party. He emphasized that Reddy’s resignation serves as a significant warning and called on the relevant leaders to take this issue seriously and resolve it fairly.
Patil, a close associate of Siddaramaiah and one of the senior leaders, was not included in the list of ministers who took oath alongside Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. He expressed hope that he would be given a position in the cabinet during the second phase of appointments.
Former minister K.N. Rajanna commented that the distribution of departments has been a topic of discussion, asserting that Reddy’s resignation is now old news. He urged the media to focus on new developments and raised questions about the allocation of certain departments.
Rajanna questioned why Ishwar Khandre was not given the Forest Ministry, which he previously held during Siddaramaiah’s government. He also inquired why G. Parameshwara was assigned the Revenue Department instead of the Home Ministry, which he had previously managed.
He stated that opportunities arise based on time and circumstances, and leaders should work for the people’s welfare and ensure effective administration.
When asked about Ramalinga Reddy’s resignation, Rajanna reiterated that it is old news and advised journalists to inquire about new events.
Regarding a question about whether the ‘troubleshooter’ is now facing difficulties, Rajanna responded, “Which troubleshooter are you referring to? This image has been created by the media.”
Minister Ishwar Khandre assured that party leaders would speak with Ramalinga Reddy and expressed confidence that he would withdraw his resignation. Meanwhile, Minister Priyank Kharge emphasized the importance of Reddy’s contributions to the party and the state, stating that the party leadership would resolve the matter.
Senior Congress MLA R.V. Deshpande described the issue as an internal party matter, affirming that Reddy is a good person and that it will be resolved within the party.
