New Delhi, June 5: A devastating fire at the Lemon Green Restaurant in Malviya Nagar, Delhi, has resulted in the deaths of 13 foreign nationals, with over 22 others injured. This information was confirmed by the Ministry of External Affairs on Friday.
During a weekly media briefing in New Delhi, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated that among the deceased are four citizens from Nigeria, three from Kyrgyzstan, and one each from Mozambique, Liberia, Uzbekistan, Bangladesh, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Iraq.
Jaiswal remarked, “According to available information, the fire incident in Delhi has resulted in the loss of 13 foreign lives. We are in contact with the embassies of all affected countries and are providing every possible assistance based on their needs.”
He added that the Ministry of External Affairs is coordinating with local authorities and hospitals to facilitate necessary documentation, medical assistance, and other essential arrangements. Approximately 22 foreign nationals were also reported injured in the incident.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy on Wednesday. He announced a relief fund of ₹200,000 for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
It is noteworthy that the fire broke out early Wednesday morning at the multi-story Lemon Green Restaurant in Malviya Nagar, leading to the tragic loss of at least 21 lives, with many others injured.
The Prime Minister’s Office conveyed via social media that the loss of life in the Malviya Nagar fire incident is extremely tragic. The government is committed to providing all possible support to those affected and wishes for the swift recovery of the injured.
