Surat, June 5: On World Environment Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed Gujarat as the pioneer of the country’s green energy revolution. He noted that at the beginning of this century, Gujarat established a separate government department for renewable energy. The first solar park in the country was set up in Charanka village, Patan district, which has significantly advanced India’s renewable energy initiatives.
PM Modi stated that India’s renewable energy capacity has now reached 250 gigawatts, with Gujarat contributing 50 gigawatts—making up one-fifth of the nation’s total green energy. The state has made remarkable strides in solar energy production and is poised to play a crucial role in future sectors like green hydrogen and green ammonia.
The Prime Minister highlighted a major public movement over the past 12 years focused on ‘Waste to Wealth,’ which has made cities cleaner and greener. He announced the approval of the Tapi Barrage project to ensure drinking water availability for Surat for decades to come. Additionally, several projects aimed at strengthening water management and drainage systems were inaugurated.
Regarding global challenges, PM Modi remarked that the world is currently facing unprecedented issues. Following the COVID-19 pandemic, various conflicts have emerged, and now an energy crisis is affecting the globe. Fluctuations in petrol prices and gas supply chain issues have troubled many nations. Thanks to the collective efforts of 1.4 billion Indians, India is robustly addressing these challenges. The current global crisis underscores the importance of energy self-sufficiency, and the capabilities developed over the past 12 years are now clearly visible.
The Prime Minister emphasized that the central government prioritizes development, which is why public trust in the BJP and its initiatives continues to grow. He noted that this trust is reflected in the repeated electoral mandates given to the BJP.
PM Modi congratulated the people of Gujarat on the historic victory of the Bharatiya Janata Party in recent local body elections. He expressed joy over the overwhelming support the BJP received in district councils, taluka councils, municipalities, and municipal corporations, breaking all previous records. This visit marks his first trip to Gujarat after the local elections. He extended his greetings to the people of Gujarat from Surat, acknowledging their consistent support for the BJP over the past two and a half decades, which has only increased over time.
He remarked that this time, the public has surpassed previous records. PM Modi urged party workers to view this victory not as a means to power but as an opportunity for service. The people of Gujarat have shown faith in the BJP’s commitment to service, and now everyone must work harder. Their goal is to fulfill the vision of ‘Developed Gujarat-Developed India.’ Surat is not just a city; it embodies a spirit. While any city might feel satisfied after winning cleanliness awards, Surat continues to prioritize cleanliness. Once severely affected by the plague, Surat is now recognized as one of the cleanest cities in the country. He congratulated the city’s citizens, officials, staff, and representatives for this achievement.
