Muscat, July 24: The ongoing FIH Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship 2026 in Oman has seen impressive performances from the Indian sub-junior women’s and men’s teams. Both teams maintained their unbeaten streak in their respective elite pools with significant victories on Thursday. The women’s team triumphed over Kazakhstan with a remarkable score of 10-0, while the men’s team defeated Bangladesh 8-3.
The Indian women’s team started strong, with Naushin Naz scoring two goals in the very first minute, giving India an early lead. The dominance continued into the second half, highlighted by ‘Player of the Match’ Sandeep Kumari, who netted a hat-trick with goals in the 11th, 16th, and 18th minutes. Naushin contributed four goals in the first half, while Kiran Ekka (15th minute), Neelam Topno (17th minute), and Pushpa Manjhi (19th minute) each added a goal to secure the victory.
The match for the Indian men’s team against Bangladesh was fiercely contested in the first half. Captain and ‘Player of the Match’ Ketan Kushwaha scored twice (4th and 8th minutes), along with Shahrukh Ali’s goal in the 3rd minute, putting India ahead 3-2. However, Bangladesh kept the pressure on with goals from Mo. Hosen (6th minute) and Sohrab Soton (8th minute).
In the second half, India extended their lead with two more goals from Kushwaha, along with contributions from Romit Pal, Prahlad Rajbhar, and Rahul Yadav, each scoring once. Bangladesh managed to net one more goal, with Soton completing his brace. The women’s team is set to face China and Uzbekistan next, while the men’s team will take on Oman and Pakistan on July 24. This tournament also serves as the Asian qualifier for the inaugural FIH Youth Hockey5s World Cup. Earlier, both Indian teams kicked off their campaigns with victories on Monday.
