New Delhi, July 24: England’s seasoned wicketkeeper-batsman Jos Buttler has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the second highest run scorer in T20 cricket. He surpassed the record previously held by West Indies legend Chris Gayle.
Buttler reached this milestone during The Hundred tournament. Playing for the Manchester Super Giants, he scored 16 runs off 11 balls against the London Spirit, bringing his total to 14,572 runs in T20 cricket.
In the shortest format of the game, Buttler has recorded 9 centuries and 102 half-centuries. With his recent performance, he has now overtaken Gayle, who amassed 14,562 runs in 455 innings, including 22 centuries and 88 half-centuries. The highest run scorer in T20 cricket remains Kieron Pollard, who has 14,803 runs from 663 innings, with 2 centuries and 70 half-centuries.
To surpass Pollard, Buttler needs just 231 more runs. As he prepares for the T20 World Cup 2026, Buttler has returned to impressive form. His recent performance in the T20 International series against India was remarkable, where he scored a stunning 131 runs off just 64 balls in the fifth T20 match. Throughout the 5-match series, Buttler averaged 43 with a strike rate of 182, accumulating a total of 175 runs.
Currently, Buttler ranks third among the highest run scorers in T20 International cricket. He has played 160 matches in this format, scoring 4,212 runs at a strike rate of 148, including 28 half-centuries and 2 centuries. Ahead of him in the rankings are Rohit Sharma and Babar Azam. Rohit has retired from T20 Internationals with 4,231 runs, while Babar leads with 4,596 runs.
